WELCOME TO TREXO: YOUR GYM ORIENTATION
Hearts up!
Hearts up!
That’s not just our slogan. It’s one of the first things Christians said to each other in worship. We’ve been saying it for 2,000 years.
‘Lift up your hearts!’ the priest says.
’We lift them up to the Lord!’ the people respond.
In Latin: Sursum Corda. The earliest prayer of the earliest church.
Hearts up! is how we orient ourselves to God. It’s where everything begins.
And it’s where you’ll begin, too.
Your soul needs a workout.
Maybe you believe in God but don’t know how to actually feel God’s presence.
Maybe church gives you community and worship, but you still hunger for more.
Maybe you’re not sure where you fit in all of this - you just know something’s missing.
You’re longing for something deeper. And you don’t know where to start.
Here’s the truth: You can’t think your way into relationship with God. You have to practice your way in.
The earliest Christians didn’t debate theology or belong to denominations. They prayed. They fasted. They worshiped. They broke bread together. They served each other with radical generosity.
They weren’t more naturally spiritual than you. They weren’t smarter or more gifted. They were just willing to practice, week after week, season after season.
And their lives were radically transformed by actual encounter with the risen Christ.
Yours can be, too
What Is Trexo?
Trexo: Ancient Christian practice for modern life.
None of this is new. In fact, it’s very, very old.
Trexo recovers the way of living practiced by the earliest Christians - not as theory, not as information, but as lived practice. Day by day, week by week, season by season.
Trexo is pre-denominational.
Back to the basics of Christianity, before denominations existed.
These practices unite Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Non-denominationals, and every Christian tradition because they’re foundational to all of them.
What Trexo offers: a spiritual fitness framework rooted in how the first followers of Jesus actually lived their faith. Small, repeated actions that build your relationship with God.
It’s not a church. but it’s not not a church. It’s how church started.
Why These Practices?
There are countless ‘spiritual practices’ today: breathing exercises, journaling, sacred spaces, mindfulness. Even Christian practices like prayer and sabbath can be practiced in dozens of ways.
How to find the right way? Is there a ‘right’ way?
Trexo Practices are developed from what the members of the earliest church were doing.
They come from the people who knew Jesus, and those only a few generations removed from when Jesus practiced them himself.
Trexo isn’t self-care. It isn’t spirituality for the sake of feeling better - though you will feel better.
Trexo isn’t Bible study - though Scripture runs throughout and it is Scripturally-based.
Trexo is spiritual formation - being formed in the image of Christ through the disciplines his earliest followers developed and lived.
I didn’t invent these practices. I didn’t pick them randomly from a menu of spiritual options. Trexo is the complete structure of Christian spiritual formation passed down through 2,000 years of apostolic tradition.
This is what Christians do. This is what Christians have always done.
A Gym for Your Soul
We use the gym metaphor because it’s easy to understand, and because it’s very much like physical fitness.
We don’t transform our bodies by knowing about exercise - we are transformed by actually exercising. Repeatedly. Intentionally. With guidance.
Trexo is Greek for “run”—specifically, to run like an athlete: with full effort, clear purpose, and directed energy. We spell it with an ‘X’ because that letter resembles a cross. In Greek, the letter Chi (Χ) represents Christ—the same symbol early Christians used in secret.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” (1 Corinthians 9:24)
Trexo =Training. Trexo= Discipline. Trexo = Discipleship.
It’s not about what we believe - it’s about how we practice.
And relationship requires practice. Learning small, repeated actions that draw you closer to God who loves you.
Here’s the promise:
You will be changed.
You will grow in your relationship with God.
The more you practice, the more you stretch and strengthen your soul. The more peace, connection, grounding, and JOY you feel.
The Gym Floor: 7 Practice Stations
Trexo is designed to help you:
Build spiritual strength
Stretch into deeper connection with God
Endure life’s challenges with hope
Grow in community with others walking the Way of Jesus
It’s not a Bible study. It’s not a belief system. It’s a spiritual gym.
Just like a physical gym has different equipment for different muscle groups, Trexo has seven practice stations—each one designed to strengthen a different dimension of your relationship with God.
DAILY ANCHOR (Individual Practice)
Hearts Up! – Worship is orientation towards God (morning, throughout the day, evening)
Jesus Prayer – Prayer is communication with God (constant conversation all day)
Bodily Prayer – Engage your whole self in worship (sign of cross, kneeling, bowing, open hands)
WEEKLY RHYTHM (Community Practice)
Sabbath – Rest, wonder, trust that God is in charge (one full day each week)
Eucharist/Table – Gather for communion with Christ and each other (sacred meals)
SEASONAL INTENSIVES (Deeper Training)
Fasting – Train in surrender to and dependence on God (especially Lent)
Vigil – Practice wakefulness and readiness for Christ (especially Advent)
Each station has everything you need:
Quick Start guide (how to do it today)
Deep teaching (where it comes from in Christian tradition)
Scripture foundation (biblical grounding)
Trainer coaching (wisdom from ancient experts)
Troubleshooting (common struggles and solutions)
Your Ancient Trainers
You’re not doing this alone. You have coaches - ancient Christian trainers who’ve been guiding souls for centuries.
We’ve scoured Christian history for trusted spiritual trainers who’ve helped shape thousands of souls. They know exactly the workout you need because they’re the ones who invented the original gym for your soul: the monastery.
They coined the term “Rule of Life” and lived it. Devoting their lives to building spiritual practice into daily rhythm - until their whole lives were about devotion to God.
They have names like:
St. Benedict – “Rhythm, not perfection”
St. Augustine – Theologian and pastor
Amma Syncletica – “Don’t overthink it, just practice”
St. Cyprian – “This is spiritual warfare”
Tertullian – “Make it constant, make it physical”
Each trainer has a distinct personality and coaching style. You’ll meet them as you practice.
Your Workout Card (Rule of Life)
The ancient monastic Christians called this a Rule of Life: a set of practices, guidelines, and rhythms that governs daily life.
Not just spiritual life - whole life. Work, relationships, community, play. At the center of life itself is the all-powerful, everlasting love of God.
Your Trexo Workout - your Rule of Life - keeps you oriented to that center. Just like it did for the earliest Christians.
Start simple. Week one might just be:
Hearts Up! in the morning
Week four might be:
Hearts Up! three times a day
Jesus Prayer throughout the day
Exploring Sabbath
By month three, you might have a full Rule of Life with daily, weekly, and seasonal practices woven into your whole life.
You’ll share your workout in our weekly Trexo chat, where the whole community supports and encourages each other.
Live Group Workouts: Coffee with the Coaches
Wednesdays at 3:30 PM ET, we gather for live sessions where we explore practices, interview ancient trainers, troubleshoot struggles, and build community.
Think of it as sitting down with Benedict or Augustine over coffee, asking them: “How do I actually make Sabbath work in my chaotic life?” And hearing their wisdom, in their own voices, from their own writings.
Start Here: Hearts Up!
Everyone - free members and gym members - starts the same way:

Hearts Up! is your foundation. It’s the Sursum Corda - the ancient call to lift your heart to God. Morning, midday, evening. It takes 3 seconds. It changes everything.
