Let us show you around the 'gym'.

Introduction

What Is Trexo?

It’s a structured framework for actively engaging our spiritual lives.

It’s ancient Christian practice + the concepts of physical fitness, designed by a priest (and runner!) to follow Jesus not by learning about the faith, but by actively participating in it.

Trexo is Greek for “run”—specifically, to run like an athlete: with full effort and directed purpose.

It’s pronounced “TRAY-co,” though technically anglicized as ‘trecho’. I chose the “x” because it resembles a cross—and in Greek, the letter chi (Χ) stands for Christ.

Trexo connects us back to that original identity—to a faith that’s lived in movement, effort, and direction.

Here’s how to start:

The very earliest Christian worship was focused on the Eucharist - the sacrament of bread and wine, Jesus’ body and blood.

Since the very beginning of the faith, Christians have begun the Eucharist with this worship phrase:

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

This is called the ‘Sursum Corda’, which is Greek for ‘lift up your hearts’.

The literal translation of the Greek is: ‘Hearts up!’

This is a brief exercise to start every day.

Open your eyes, welcome the day, and say: ‘Hearts up!’

This is worship - glorifying the Lord. Orienting you towards God’s power, goodness and love.

Why Your Soul Needs a Workout

How’s your hope level lately? Does your life feel bound by JOY? Do you long to feel closer to God but don't know where to start (and maybe church isn’t helping with that…)?

Maybe it’s time to add some interior activity - soul stretches and spiritual strength training - alongside others walking the way. You don’t need more faith.
You just need to practice.

How the Gym Will Guide You

It’s like a monastery meets a bootcamp.

We will strengthen our spirit and build the spiritual muscle we need for a life of meaning, purpose, and JOY.

It’s about experience, not intellect (though you’ll learn a lot). And it’s borrowed directly from the people who knew people who knew Jesus - Christians from the first few hundred years of the church.

Which means: it’s grounded in the basics of faith.

To participate in Trexo, you don’t need to belong to a church. You don’t need to be baptized or even be sure you’re a Christian (though it is about following Jesus, so you may surprise yourself!).

On the other hand, if you already belong to a church, you can participate in Trexo as a way to supplement your spiritual growth (think of it like cross-training!). You can even participate as a congregation - use Trexo as part of your Christian formation.

Trexo (‘TRAY-co’) is a set of spiritual exercises based on early Christian practice.

We believe that learning - and experiencing - the faith of those who were close to Jesus leads to big changes in our lives: more love, peace, forgiveness, and JOY.

Exercises are derived from how the earliest disciples (up to ~400 AD) organized their lives, relationships, and communities and created ‘church’.

From early church sources - the Acts of the Apostles, the Didache, and the Apostolic Tradition - we’ve developed into the concept of a ‘gym for your soul’.

We all know what a gym is, and why we would go: health, strength, growth, life improvement, community.

Trexo is the same concept, but for our interior life:

  • Strength (Greek = ‘ischus’): Christian practices of Worship and Discipleship

  • Stretching (Greek = ‘ekteino’): Christian practices of Prayer and Evangelism

  • Endurance (Greek ‘hupomeno’): Christian practices of Scripture and Economics

  • Teamwork (Greek ‘koinonia’): Christian practices ofHospitality and Relationship

Using these concepts as the base, members ‘train’ through guided workouts.
